Tenerife is part of the Canary Islands which consists of  Gran Canaria  Fuerteventura  Lanzarote  Tenerife  La Palma  Gomera Hierro & a few smaller ones Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaņa Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste und Lobos. This was not a dive trip in the usual sense, we were here for a holiday and doing some sightseeing, Tenerife is a great place and is suitable whatever your taste. Mount Teide the "Top" of Tenerife is in the national park and makes for a great day out, the drive up is through some beautiful countryside and forest, as you come out of the forest you could be forgiven for thinking you were on the Moon, the landscape is definatly "lunar", and here Mount Teide rises up to the sky.

We had not come to dive but could not resist the temptation, we were staying at the southern end of Tenerife, at Los Christianos. It is a little quieter than Playa de las Americas and has lots of very inexpensive restaurants. You can view by looking at the following link http://www.canaries-live.com/UK/index.html

We found a dive center down by the harbour and booked some diving, we had taken fins and mask but nothing else so we rented from the shop. I think we dived 5 or 10 minutes out of Los Christianos, right by the Lighthouse. The dive center used a "RIB" to transport about 10 of us out to the dive site, we were diving on a small wreck that was famous for the resident Turtle and loads of Ray's. We were not dissapointed, the Ray's came in their dozens and the Turtle showed up 10 minutes from the end of the dive, the dive (back in 98) is still one of Janets most memorable and favourite dives. Just goes to show you don't have to travel half way around the world to enjoy your diving..........surely thats what its all about. It was such a good dive that everyones dive computor was beeping away, mine was anyway.............telling the time to end the dive was upon us. The photo's below were all taken with the video camera using the "freeze frame" function.
