Florida Keys. What a great place, we were there in the winter, January to be precise but it was still warm and the sun was shining. We had arrived at Miami airport from San Francisco after missing our flight the previous day………after picking up our car from the rental station, the airport has lots of regular shuttle busses to take visitors to their respective rental companies. We loaded our dive bags into the boot/trunk of the car and set of on our journey South to Key Largo on the Florida Keys. We were on the Turnpike and looking forward to the drive ahead, this was our first trip to Florida and hopefully not the last. We were heading for Kelly’s on the Bay home of Aqua-Nut Divers at mile marker 104.2 on US 1. Check out WWW.AQUA-NUTS.COM Once there we found the dive center was a fully self contained motel come dive center, there are self contained chalets, and a lovely view of the inland water way from the decking built in the water itself, they have two large powerful boats at their private mooring, a swimming pool that doubles as a training pool and a dive shop and equipment room that is stocked with everything you could require. |

| The diving is done in surprisingly shallow waters, the dive's we did was in about 12 to 14 metres…..and the water temp was a chilling 21 degrees centigrade, we had been diving the previous week in 30 degrees plus, so the 21 degrees was something of a shock. We were diving right out on the horizon and were surprised at the depth of the dives, we had put on thicker wetsuits to overcome the water temperature but forgotten to increase the lead on our belts……..yes, we found it difficult to get down……..but down we went, head first and filled our pockets with rocks to get our bouyancy correct, after that we had some enjoyable dives and found the marine life very friendly and not bothered by us or our bubbles. In the evenings after building our appetite with the diving, we would go down to GANIMS, our local restaurant, I only mention it because the meals were enormous and their home made beans simply delicious, worth a trip back just for that. | |||
